Efficient care

Anna Hospital

The Anna Hospital sees that care is changing and becoming more efficient through Patient Journey App. Patients are better informed and, as a result, better prepared.

Walter van der Weegen

Walter van der Weegen has been a scientific researcher for over 12 years in the Orthopaedics department at the Sint-Anna Hospital. He leads these studies from start to finish, ensuring that the results contribute to making treatments as optimal as possible in practice.

The Anna Hospital

The reason for using Patient Journey App comes from the enthusiasm of the orthopaedic surgeons. Due to the app's success within the Orthopaedics department, it is now being implemented in more specialties and departments within the hospital. The department aims to continue developing, particularly in the area of e-health.

"The moment we saw that the app was being used extensively by patients and that it was truly beneficial to them, we really accelerated its usage. For orthopaedics alone, there are already 560 active users per month."

"When something is added to the app, we see significant spikes in usage. For instance, when we started adding videos, we noticed an increase in app usage. We communicate developments within the app via social media to ensure users are informed and encouraged to use the app."

Benefits for the hospital

You can see that care is changing and becoming more efficient through Patient Journey App. Patients are better informed and, as a result, better prepared. “We used to have group information sessions, which have now been replaced by the app. The care provider gains efficiency, and the patient receives much clearer information at the right moment. The way you can present information is far more advanced than an old booklet with little figures illustrating exercises.”

Benefits for the patient

"It is not only an incredibly efficient tool for the care provider, but also for the patient. The information and preparation for a treatment or appointment are much easier to share. Now caregivers are advised: download the app too, so you can follow the treatment journey together. These are examples we hear back from practice."

Feedback

"The outpatient department always calls immediately if something is incorrect in the app. This shows that they find it very interesting and want the app to work well. The nursing staff considers it important that the information is accurate in the app, as their patients rely on it.

"Patients tell the physiotherapists that it's much easier to perform exercises because they have a video instead of just a picture."

Future

"It would be great in the future if the patient journey could adapt to the patient. Patients wouldn't need to come in for every check-up; instead, part of the check-up could be done through the app. However, there should always be two options for the patient; a Patient Journey doesn't work for everyone. Some prefer it on paper, while others prefer it in the app or face-to-face.

"We see a lot of possibilities with the app. We can do much more with the app than with a flat booklet!"
